Total Air War is the world's first combat simulation to engage players in all the challenges and excitement of fighting a modern air war. From planning the tactics right down to flying the missions, there are many ways to play Total Air War:

  • As a Tactical Mission Planner you'll plan the missions necessary to fulfil the strategic objectives. The advanced Mission Planner software will enable you to employ the latest in stealth tactics and assemble formidable strike packages from a wide variety of aircraft types. In the War Room you'll observe the results of allied missions and check on the progress of the campaign in real time.

  • As a Weapons Officer you'll select the weapons most appropriate to the planned missions. Choose the wrong weapons and you could comprimise an aircraft's stealth, defenses and ability to execute its mission.

  • As the Commander of an Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft (AWACS) you will vector allied flights against incoming enemy flights, ensure that refuelling flights are available and direct flights in need of help to the protection of friendly airbases. This role will make a crucial difference to the outcome of the war. You are also able to enter any allied F-22 aircraft from this position. Your performance in the AWACS is scored alongside your F-22 exploits.

  • As the pilot of an F-22 Air Dominance Fighter, you will take the fight to the enemy, flying a wide range of critical missions strapped into the cockpit of the most advanced jet-fighter of all time.

Total Air War showcases the latest dynamic campaign technology from DID giving players unlimited variety in gameplay. The action is real-time so the war evolves around you. Total Air War is set in a target-rich environment with more than 22,000 targets, over 5,000 named cities and towns, plus more than 300 airfields, each with correct runways and buildings. The 4.5 million square-kilometer area covers eight countries and features some of the world's most dramatic scenery.

Total Air War's dynamic campaign features all the unexpected twists of intense air war. During campaigns, the comprehensive air defence network will issue "Scramble" alerts whenever the player's airbases are threatened.

For the first time in a flight simulation, pilots will experience cloud layers as they are in real life. When the weather is bad, strike missions and visual dogfights become tougher, demanding greater pilot skill and cunning.

Total Air War features a custom combat mission builder that enables you to practice against any adversary in the air or on the ground under conditions of your choosing. Discover the strengths and weaknesses of enemy aircraft and master the art of engaging multiple bandits - alone or with wingmen.

ACMI allows the player to record and review a flight from virtually any angle. Total Air War comes free with a collection of new ACMI training files to take the player through all the basics of flight and combat.

Total Air War provides a login screen that allows the player to display their own picture and squadron patch. This feature will especially appeal to the world's "virtual squadrons" who will now have the possibility to integrate their own squadron patches into Total Air War.
